Cleaning Your Glass Shower Doors: 4 Tips

Blog

You may have shied away from glass shower doors because of the idea of keeping the glass clean. The soap scum that builds up can look unsightly. With a shower curtain, you can just toss it and buy a new one, but a glass shower door cannot simply be thrown away - it's going to take some work on your part and some upkeep to keep it shining like new.

Read on for tips to keep your glass shower doors clean.

1. Keep A Squeegee On Hand

Grab a small squeegee and keep it in the shower. When you finish showering use it to get rid of any water left on the doors. Removing the water can help prevent hard water from building up on the glass, which can be hard to remove if left until the next time you clean. It's a quick task and won't take up too much time in your morning routine.

2. Clean More Often

If you typically don't clean your shower weekly, you may want to start just to prevent a buildup of soap scum and hard water setting for too long on your glass doors. Giving your shower and doors a weekly cleaning will keep your doors looking like new. Cleaning them weekly will also save you some scrubbing time. You can use a bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth, or you can use a 1/4 cup of baking soda mixed with 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Combine the ingredients together into a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on your doors and gently scrub the soap scum and hard water away using a soft sponge or cloth.

3. Apply A Glass Protector

Protect the glass from building up with soap scum and make your shower doors easier to clean by using a product such as Jet Dry. Rub it on your glass shower doors to use as a protector and to help prevent hard water stains or spots when dry.

4. Dry Your Doors

After cleaning your doors make sure you dry them with a microfiber cloth. The microfiber cloth prevents any scratching and prevents the buildup of lint being left behind as with traditional towels. Dry the doors and any hardware on the doors or the surrounding area as well.

Glass shower doors can get dirty, but with a little work and weekly maintenance, they can look brand-new. Ditch the shower curtain and invest in shower doors instead, which can add value and beauty to your home. For more information, contact a company like Superior Frameless Showers.

Cleaning Glass More Effectively

After moving into a house with loads of windows, I knew that I would be spending a lot of time dealing with the problem. I wanted to make things right, so I started thinking about how to clean glass more effectively. I started focusing on keeping water from spraying on the windows, and then I worked on making sure that the glass stayed polished all of the time. I even hired a few of my kids to shine the windows periodically, which I felt really helped. This website is your new resource for all things glass, including how to keep them clean.
